Meet First Time Model ….. Scott

It all started last year on 20th August when I was booked to photography the wedding of Scott and Karla. Having booked to get married at the Old Manor hotel in Lundin Links, just outside Leven, we had a cracking day with blistering sunshine and never even lost one single person to the bar :)

Having delivered their wedding album and made new friends of Scott and Karla, we were even more happy to book their friends Joan & Ken’s wedding this year.

It was then that I had an idea to try some new things in the studio and also do something that I had not done in a long time !!

I had not photographed a male model in the studio for over 4 years, seems all the guys around here are too shy ;)

I was looking for a guy that was fit, looked after his body, and was pretty ripped, but looked “hard” at the same time. I remember from the wedding that Scott and all his buddies were gym lovers, so a phone call later and Scott was booked in :) little did I know that I was actually making a long time dream come true for this poser … ha ha

So this morning, with the sun drying up the wet ground from last nights rain, we had a photo shoot in the studio to see what we could get out of it.

……. i will let the images speak for themselves.

Cheers Scott … see you again soon no doubt :D

Creeping about in the dark

…. this is not an easy task by far, but we decided that after trying out the LED lighting circles and making of Light Spheres, we would take it to the next level and see how we got on.

Having never tried it but read many tutorials and articles and watched a few YouTube clips … I think we did not too bad for our first outing on this.

The wind started to pick up so we had to call it a night early, but had a good laugh and have got the settings for the camera locked in, now just to find other locations that we can do the LED spheres, and potentially this explosive looking effect.

See you all soon :)

The Rooney Family

Sunday morning was met with a wonderful and happy family called The Rooney Family.

They come to the studio via a gift voucher purchased at Christmas time from a family member (Kerryanne Redpath) , and were looking to use it prior to them all jetting off and emigrating to Canada …lucky people :)

The girls in the family were so happy and playful, and with a little bit of coaxing from the McDonald’s line book, we had them smiling and laughing and giggling like happy little kids ….. and even the children joined in too :)

Having the normal “I’m not photogenic and don’t like my photo taken” mum got right into it and before long was smiling and giggling too.

Over the photo shoot it was a good time, and everyone left with smiles and a good experience at the studio.

Mum even commented saying that there was a photo she actually liked of herself ;) see …. everyone is photogenic ;)

Thanks, and have a safe journey Rooney Family :)

Walk in Wemyss on an afternoon off …

Having a little time to myself on Friday afternoon, I decided to go for a little walk to get some fresh air and ended up in Wemyss, Fife.

Having all the camera kit with me, I convinced myself that I would only shoot with the iPhone 4 and use the Bleach Bypass filter for the effect.

Beautiful light, beautiful weather and sunshine led to a beautiful set of images in my opinion.

What I did noticed was some discarded items though and although they obviously belonged to someone at some point but they do tell a story of which we will never know or hear unfortunately.

Hope you enjoy, as it was a good day to chill and relax.

Engagement Shoot for Robbie & Nicola

With an overcast day looming and the threat of rain, off I drove to a new location for us and an exciting engagement shoot.

What started off as an email enquiry for a wedding and a few phone calls, Robbie and Nicola decided that Steven Brown Photography would be the photographers for their special wedding at a fantastic venue which will offer up some amazing photograph opportunities. The venue is the wonderful Airth Castle.

Meeting with Robbie and Nicola for the first time was as relaxed and calming as I thought it would be. Having never met the couple until this time, we decided to shoot a mini engagement session to mark the meeting and also to give something to the couple who had travelled up from England to meet the wedding planner and myself.

Having a look around the castle and the grounds, we have a good idea of how the day will run, and the timings will be set in place.

This is going to be a great wedding with such a great and happy couple who I guarantee will have such an amazing day with photographs and celebrations.

Thanks Robbie & Nicola, it will be an honour to share your day with you :)

Steven

Welcome to Baby Lily

This morning I have had the absolute privilege to be in the company of three people. Liam and Kayleigh brought newborn Baby Lily into the studio to begin her year long photo shoot to document babies first year. Lily was born on 20th January 2012.

With Lily being on her best behavior and getting through the photo shoot no problems, we decided to put Birdy on the music in the background and Lily loved it, gently drifting off to sleep so we could continue with the photo shoot. Both mummy and daddy were also so well behaved and it turned out to be one of the most gentle and emotional photo shoots I have ever shot, with mummy and granny in tears.

It truly was a beautiful and gentle way to start my morning, and I am truly honoured to be covering the first year of Baby Lily’s life in the world.

Thanks guys, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

So without any further delay, here are a few shots of Baby Lily, Kayleigh and Liam.

The Martin Family

As the sun was starting to set, I was waiting on The Martin Family coming to the studio for their family portraits. Gail was a friend from many years ago when I was younger and had a social life :) Little did I know that the family that was coming with her was all people I knew from growing up in the village of Cardenden.

It was a great pleasure meeting these people all over again and having a laugh with them during the photo shoot. When I left the village Gail had not long had “Baby Tammy”.

It is official, I am now OLD !!!!

Here is a little snap shot of The Martin Family. It was a pleasure having you guys visit the studio.

Thank you.

Paralympic Hopeful – Stefan Hoggan

Paralympic Hopeful – Stefan Hoggan

Yesterday I had the honour of meeting and photographing a charming young man, called Stefan Hoggan, from Auchtermuchty, on the final day before he was jetting of to begin intensive training

A Paralympics 2012 hopeful has received financial help and support from Rowlands Pharmacy in his bid to qualify for the Paralympic Games in the discipline of swimming.

Nineteen-year-old Stefan Hoggan from Auchtermuchty will travel to the London Aquatics Centre in March for the British Gas Swimming Championships (Olympic/Paralympic Trials).

Stefan was born with his lower right arm missing.  His mother started to take him to disability swimming lessons when he was three years old and he then joined the Glenrothes Swimming Club.  Three years ago he joined the Carnegie Swimming Club which is where he trains now for over 20 hours a week coached by John Szaranek.  Stefan is also receiving support from Disability Sport Fife and Fit & Happy Personal Trainers.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Stefan all the best of luck with his training and his bid to qualify for the Paralympic Games in London 2012.

Photographers can have fun too

… yes it is indeed true, photographers get fun time to play and mess around trying out some new fun stuff.

Finally the full moon arrived and I got time to try something been wanting to try for years but never got around to it.

10pm arrived and off we went. Rigged up some old Christmas lights and some LED lights, some cables, some small battery packs, wrapped up warm since it was -3 degrees outside and off across the park to see if we could get it done.

We messed around for couple hours and was starting to get the technique right when the cables holding the lights snapped and the lights went off … it was pretty funny.

So messed around with the torch and the kids names, and then decided it was time to go home. The interesting this was that the camera kit performed really well considering the conditions. The lens hoods and tripods were covered in ice as they had been sitting outside while the long exposures were produced.

All the shots were between 20 and 50 seconds long, which will lead me to my next attempt at shots as I have just ordered some LED Poi Kits to see if I can get the next step right. We also need to find some interesting locations that are free from albient light and will be scouting about for that too.

If you know of anyplace and want to help or get involved in this fun project, get in touch by leaving me a message or getting in contact.

Watch this space, I may get some play time again soon :)

Steven

Family Day at the Christening of ….

… Baby Chloe Pamela Duke.

With the Christening in the morning held at St Marys (Dundee Parish Church) with all the family from both the Urquhart and the Duke’s and the extras from the Brown’s (mine) … lol … we all sat through the Sunday service while Baby Chloe was Christened.

After some lovely messages to the family and the hymns sung, the family and friends moved onto Monifeith Golf Club, where a buffet lunch was prepared and gifts were handed out to the family and friends whom were involved in the day.

Having my camera handy, I snapped away some memories of the day for Rebecca and Russell to capture some family shots in a relaxed manner.

After a few hours, it was time to leave, and we all headed home, although i feel that the Dundee lot will take a wee bit longer than us Fife lot to go home.

Baby Chloe was a wee gem on the day, having many photos taken with friends and family and never once did she complain. A true angel and loved the camera …. bit like her mum actually …

Congratulations to Baby Chloe and parents Rebecca and Russell Duke.

Hope to see you guys again sooner rather than later.

Steven
